New World Triathlon Cup venues confirmed for 2023

World Triathlon is pleased to announce two new venues for the 2023 World Cup circuit. With 14 events still to come this year across the second-tier of international triathlon, the schedule is a packed one over the coming months. Now, a brand new and historic addition in North Africa and a venue change to one of the world’s great capital cities are confirmed for October.

Morocco makes history

The addition of the ancient city of Tangier in Morocco is all set to take place on 1 October. This will be the first ever hosting of a World Cup in the country and also ensures that World Triathlon Cup racing will be held on every TRI continent in 2023.

It will be a sprint-distance affair on the country’s stunning north coast where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. The 750m ocean swim transitions to a 20km bike and 5km run both right along the beachfront, the winners making history by becoming the first triathletes to cross a World Cup finish line in the country.

Italian capital debuts as host

The following weekend will see the World Triathlon Cup Rome replacing Arzachena as Italy’s host of the circuit after three years in Sardinia’s northeast. One of the world’s great capital cities, Rome has never hosted an international TRI event, and the sprint-distance race will take place in and around Lago dell’EUR.

The EUR (Esposizione Universale Roma) neighbourhood has a rich sporting history, its Palazzo dello Sport hosting the 1960 Olympic Games, and the lake swim will transition to a hilly 20km bike and 5km run in and around the city’s central park urban oasis when World Triathlon racing descends on Italy once again on 7 October.
