World Triathlon Para Cup Malaga added to the 2023 calendar

World Triathlon’s Executive Board has approved the inclusion on the 2023 season calendar a new event, the World Triathlon Para Cup Malaga, to be hosted on October 21, 2023, and will be the last Para triathlon event counting for the Paralympic qualification this year. The Board has also approved the cancellation of the Montevideo World Cup, scheduled for November 2023.

The Para Cup Malaga will not only attract the best Para triathletes of the world to the Spanish coastal city, but will also serve as a test event for the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals. In October 2024, the Spanish city will crown World Champions for the Elite, U23, Junior and Para triathlon, the Mixed Relay World Championships for U23/Juniors and potentially Para triathlon, as well as Age-Group Standard distance, Age-Group Sprint distance, Age-Group Aquabike Standard distance and Age-Group Mixed Relay World Championships. The exact date of the 2024 Championship Finals will be announced in September.

“Awarding Malaga as the host of my last Championship Finals as World Triathlon President was indeed very special and means a lot to me. And now welcoming the best para triathletes of the world for the Para Cup here this year is just the first step on what I am absolutely convinced that will be a truly magnificent event. The location is just perfect, with warm temperatures, an incredible venue, and a course right through the heart of the city, one of Europe’s best tourist destinations. I am truly convinced that the experience for para athletes will be one to remember, and they will love to return there in 24 for the World titles”, said World Triathlon President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado.
