Inside World Triathlon
Governance
World Triathlon is the international governing body for the sport of triathlon and all related multisport disciplines around the world. Founded as the International Triathlon Union (ITU) in April 1989 in Avignon, France, in October 2020 it officially assumed the identity of World Triathlon.
The seat of World Triathlon is in Lausanne, Switzerland, and its headquarters shall be decided by the Executive Board. It is a non-profit-making organisation and does not pursue any objective for its own gains.
World Triathlon is proudly committed to the development and promotion of the sport of triathlon, paratriathlon and its related multisports and is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
Triathlon, which integrates disciplines administered by other International Sports Federations (IFs), is developed according to its own specific nature and under its sole authority.
